Man accused of killing Ann Widdecombe charged over alleged terror plot targeting Nigel Farage
Joshua Kerry, 28, faces a charge of preparing terrorist acts. He was charged in July with the murder of the former Conservative minister.
A man already charged with murdering former British minister Ann Widdecombe has been charged with preparing terrorist acts, including against Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
The man accused of murdering former British government minister Ann Widdecombe has been charged with preparing terrorist acts, including against Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, police said on Friday.
Joshua Kerry, 28, of Rotherham in South Yorkshire, faces one count of preparation of terrorist acts. Farage and others were among the alleged targets, according to reports of the charge.
The new charge widens a case that has already shaken British politics. Widdecombe, a former Conservative MP and minister, was found dead at her home near Dartmoor National Park in southwest England on July 9. Kerry was charged with her murder later that month.
Counter-terrorism police said the latest charge followed a "hugely intensive and complex investigation."
When Kerry was first charged in July, the head of UK counter-terrorism policing, Laurence Taylor, said that given Widdecombe's profile "and the targeted nature of the attack," possible political motivation "remains an active avenue of investigation," Al Jazeera reported.
No attack on Farage took place, and Kerry has not entered a plea to the new charge.
It was not immediately clear when he would next appear in court.
Under British law, Kerry is presumed innocent, and reporting on the case is restricted to avoid prejudicing any trial.
